    Check the float switch in the tank

    If the float switch in the tank is above the water line then it looks as though you are using more water than what is going into the tank.

    Stop using water from the pump and allow the tank to top up so the level switch is submerged in water.

    If the the float switch is submerged in the water then please check to see if there is any debris around the float switch. If there is then please remove these as they are probably stopping the float switch from performing correctly.

    Also check why there is debris in the tank because if fitted correctly the in-tank filter should not allow debris into the tank.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_empty_space height="40px"][vc_single_image image="580" img_size="medium" alignment="right" style="vc_box_shadow_3d"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Did this help?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/6"][vc_btn title="YES" style="3d" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Frainhub.co.uk%2Fthankyou%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/6"][vc_btn title="NO" style="3d" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Frainhub.co.uk%2Fthe-alarm-is-sounding-on-the-backup-in-a-box-contact%2F|title:The%20alarm%20is%20sounding%20on%20the%20Backup%20in%20a%20Box%20-%20Contact"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/6"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

    Check the float switch on the control unit

    Is the cable for the float switch connected to the control unit? This could have been accidentally unplugged.

    Alarm sounding…

    The Backup in a Box has an alarm that will sound if it believes that the mains water has been running for more than 4 hours through the unit.

    If you have been for example running a hosepipe or watering the garden for many hours and your tank was low when you started then this will explain why the alarm is sounding.

    The water only flows into the tank at a rate of 4 litres per minutes so if you are irrigating the garden you are more than likely using more water per minute than what is going into the tank. This would explain the alarm.

    Switch off the unit and restart and then you will have another 4 hours before the alarm sounds again though you will probably run out of water in the tank before this happens if irrigating.

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The pump has a leak protection mode that is designed to protect your pump in the event that the pump has started and stopped too many times in a short period of time. This means the pump has shut down alerting the owner to a problem.

    Please open a garden tap, power off the pump and then power it up again.

    If the water flows please close the tap, wait 10 seconds and then open the tap again.

    Which version do you have?

    There are two versions of the header tank. If you purchased the system before 20th Septermber 2017 you will have two sensor switches in the header tank.

    If it was later than 20th September 2017 you will have a sensor bar in the header tank.

    Beneath is an image of both, please select which model you have :[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="1205" img_size="medium" alignment="center" style="vc_box_shadow_3d"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="1206" img_size="medium" alignment="center" style="vc_box_shadow_3d"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Pre Sept 2017" style="3d" align="center" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Frainhub.co.uk%2Fred-spanner-light-is-on-float-switch-2%2F|title:Header%20Tank%20is%20Overflowing%20%E2%80%93%20Cat%205-V1||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="After Sept 2017" style="3d" align="center" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Frainhub.co.uk%2Fred-spanner-light-is-on-water-level%2F|title:Header%20Tank%20is%20Overflowing%20%E2%80%93%20Cat%205-V2||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

    The non return valve is located on the inlet of the pump.

    Dry run protection.

    [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]If the water level is low and it has recently rained the pump may be in ‘Dry Run Protection’.

    This means an automatic reset after a period of 30 minutes. If water is still not detected, subsequent reset periods are 1.5 hours, 3 hours, 7 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours then back to the beginning of the cycle.

    Additionally, a thermal switch, not connected to the PCB, turns the pump off when motor overheats. It resets when cool which may take several hours.

    Power off then pump, leave for 10 seconds and then power it up again to reset it.
